CT3000 Screen
The Main Display Screen of the CHEMTROL® CT6000 Programmable Controller shows the values of key parameters (i.e., conductivity sensor reads 2050 uS/cm), operational settings (i.e., A next to conductivity indicates the control mode is set to Automatic) and system status (> next to conductivity indicates the bleed valve is currently activated) .  
The Main Display also gives direct access to all the menus and submenus. Navigation between the menus and inside the menus is easily accomplished with the four directional arrow keys. Numerical settings can be changed with the ten-key keypad.

SATURATION AND WATER BALANCE

Proper control of saturation and water balance is required to maintain water quality and to avoid the development of scaling or corrosive conditions.

The CONDUCTIVITY sensor monitors the concentration of dissolved solids by measuring the conductivity of the water. The data can be displayed either in conductivity units (microsiemens/cm) or in parts per million of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS).  Based on the information provided by the sensor, CHEMTROL® CT Series controllers automatically control the BLEED VALVE to maintain the cooling water total dissolved solids within a user-defined range.

Conductivity Screen

The data can be displayed either in conductivity units (microsiemens/cm) or in ppm of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), using an operator-selectable conversion factor.

The CONDUCTIVITY MENU allows monitoring and control of the conductivity or TDS levels, with selection of:
To avoid the development of corrosion, scale, or microbiological organisms and to limit the amount of suspended solids, chemical ADDITIVES - such as inhibitors, biocides, dispersants, etc. - are frequently added to the cooling water system.  The CHEMTROL® CT6000 controller allows to feed 4  different chemicals indepedently.  To maximize the effectiveness of the chemicals, each additive feed program features Single shot/Booster treatment and Bleed lockout with pre-bleed and pre-pH subfunctions.
Additive Screen

"Additive 1" can be changed to actual chemical names such as Inhibitor, Biocide, Dispersant, etc. from a pre-determined list in the model option menu.

Each ADDITIVE MENU allows control of the Additive feed pump, with selection of:
The LSI (Langelier Saturation Index) calculates the saturation condition from the pH and Temperature sensor inputs and from manual data entry for Alkalinity and Calcium Hardness. The water saturation condition is constantly displayed on the Main Screen as either "OK", "Scaling" or "Corrosive" using standard Langelier Index limits. If a scaling or corrosive condition develops, it is immediately indicated with a flashing display on the Main Screen. "What if" analyses can be run at any time by manually entering different values for alkalinity, calcium hardness, pH and temperature.
Saturation Screen

If a scaling or corrosive condition develops, it is immediately indicated with a flashing display on the Main Screen: "Scale" or "Corr".  If the index is within user-defined limits, the Main Screen indicates "OK".

The  SATURATION MENU is used for automatic calculation and display of the Langelier Index which monitors the Water Balance and Saturation conditions from:

WATER pH AND ORP AUTOMATION

By constantly monitoring the pH of the water and the activity of the oxidizing biocides through ORP, chemical automation makes it possible to maintain clean and safe water at all times.

The pH MENU is used to automatically add the proper amount of acid and/or base to maintain the desired water pH level.  It also includes an Probe Rinse program for periodic injection of a rinse solution to clean the heads of the sensors.

More recently, cooling tower operators have become aware of the dangers caused by the presence of germs and bacteria in the water.  Most dangerous are A. Pseudomonas  which can cause the fatal Legionaires' disease.  These can be prevented by the injection of oxidizing sanitizers or biocides controlled by ORP.  Indeed, numerous studies by health departments all over the world have shown that the Oxidation-Reduction Potential (ORP or Redox) generated by an oxidizing  sanitizer, such as chlorine or bromine, is the most reliable indicator of both sanitizer activity and sterilisation of germs and bacteria - far superior to conventional test kit measurements.  

ORP Screen

The ORP MENU is used to control the Oxidation-Reduction Potential produced in the water by an oxidizer such as ozone or an oxidizing sanitizer, such as chlorine or bromine.

Temperature Sensor readings can be displayed either in degrees Farenheit or Celsius. The TEMPERATURE MENU is used to calibrate the temperature sensor using 1, 2 or 3-point calibration and to set high and low alarms.

FLOW & WATER LEVEL AUTOMATION

The FLOW MENU is used to monitor the flow rates and cummulative volumes of both influent and effluent water, receiving the information sent from hall-effect or reed-switch water flowmeters.  The menu is also used to maintain the system water level by controlling a make-up valve.  It automatically adds water to the system through the input of an optical sensor.

Filter Screen The FLOW MENU is used to monitor the flow rates of two watermeters and control the system water level.

FILTER MENU

The FILTER MENU is used to program the backwash schedule based on time cycle or on pressure differential. Multiple filters are backwashed in sequence with adjustable backwash and advance time for each filter.

CONFIGURATION MENU

The CONFIGURATION MENU is accessed from the Main Menu by pressing the down arrow after reaching the bottom of the screen. This menu is used to modify the configuration parameters for initialisation, operations and communications from their initial defaut values. These values can be changed at any time or restored to the original default values.
